Karolina Krzywicka-Szpor

The Warsaw School of Social Psychology, Poland, was founded in 1996 by former professors of the Institute of Psychology of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Originally, SWPS established a five-year Masters degree program in Psychology, specializing in Social Psychology, soon followed by other specializations. Currently they offer BA studies in Polish Studies, Spanish Studies, Scandinavian Studies, English Studies, Philosophy, Cultural Studies, Political Science, Sociology, International Relations and Public Health, MA in Psychology, English Studies, Sociology, Cultural Studies, and Political Science. SWPS has been granted the right to award doctoral degrees in Psychology and Cultural Studies and the habilitation title to doctors of Psychology. The staff have extensive experience in designing and teaching online and blended-mode courses of English as a Foreign Language as well as many other subjects. They have also been involved in the administration and teaching of a postgraduate course in CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning) and in vocational training. In 2005 the university was in the process of deploying an institution-wide online teaching platform.

SWPS takes an active part in the 'EUROVOLT via VLE' project by sharing the expertise already gathered in the field of CALL, online teaching and vocational training. They develop, pilot and evaluate blended language learning modules: English for Psychology and Polish for Diplomacy and Politics as well as prepare modules for VOLT. These modules can be used as models for various other post-secondary, including vocational courses and in the teacher training courses to be developed by partner institutions. The project results are disseminated regularly within the institution and in the region through teacher training workshops and presentations at conferences, nationally and internationally (papers, posters, stands).

Karolina Krzywicka-Szpor has been working for SWPS since 1996. She has designed and conducted blended and online language and EFL methodology courses. Since 2008 she has been deputy head of the SWPS eLearning centre and is responsible for implementing eLearning in almost all SWPS courses.
