EUROVOLT

The specific aspect of innovation that this project offers is a new Virtual Learning Environment displaying three integrated areas (I - III) in the field of language education (upper secondary, adult, university, and private sector):

EUROVOLT Products Overview

The project developed a new language teacher training course (online on Moodle and it`slearning) consisting of nine different contents modules targeting the full integration of ICT and the new media in different vocational and professional language teaching, - learning scenarios and cultures. eTeacher-Portfolio approach on it`slearning.

I. Teacher Training Course for Language Teachers and Trainers
http://www.eurovolt.net/products/volt/

1. Teaching online
a) Teaching with a VLE
b) Creating multi-media (content) material, resources, and designing tasks and exercises for trainees` target groups
c) E-moderating

2. Learning Online
a) Online Assessment
b) Independent Learning
c) Collaborative Learning

3. Planning and Evaluating
a) Unit Design
b) Course Design
c) Organisational aspects (POET Principle)
Optional: Technical and other aspects of language teaching and learning

Course Language: English, CEFR Level B 2 or higher.

The trainees were able to create their own professionally and/or vocationally oriented language learning units (as a model) on a platform/VLE (e.g. on Moodle - open source, on it'slearning - commercial or any other VLE, i.e. Blackboard).

The EUROVOLT course illustrates how to deploy newly developed e-learning environments, providing activities to practise all four language skills, to some extent speaking.
A set of teaching/learning scenarios and exemplar materials, models of good practice in modular form, show a principled approach to the use of the new media and to various methodological approaches (pedagogical concepts applied: Content Based Teaching - CLIL, Task Based Approach, Autonomous Learning etc.), showing how to apply quality criteria to the planning, implementation and evaluation of language learning programmes for specific vocational and professional purposes in a virtual learning environment/platform.

Certification/Accreditation by

  • ICC - The European Language Network within the Eurolta Teacher Training Scheme
  • WeiterBildungsAkademie Austria 4 ECTS (didactic competence)
  • In 2008 it is planned to award the course with 3 ECTS at Donau Universität Krems/Austria).
ECTS: Credits within the framework of the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System.

In addition, the materials produced and applied and the templates for establishing quality criteria contribute to the increasing pool of documentation of good practice throughout the Union, which can be emulated by training and educational establishments throughout Europe. The use of the new media in vocationally oriented (VOLL) and professional language teaching and learning can contribute significantly to the efficiency of learning in this area.

    II. Model Language Learning Modules

To increase competence in the new literacies for language teachers and trainers, this project enables them to use virtual learning environments (VLEs) with ease in a variety of language learning contexts (exemplary modules in Bulgarian, German, English (3), Norwegian, Polish, Russian) and for a wide range of vocational sectors embedded in a variety of cultural backgrounds.

The modules contain a variety of methodological and didactic innovations for language teachers and learners (e.g. an ePortfolio on it`slearning alongside EUROPASS).

III. A special VLE area demonstrating 'Good Practice'
    http://www.eurovolt.net/products/goodpractice07/

There is now an annotated links area to other models of Good Practice online, displaying vocational and professional language teacher-training and language learning compiled by October 2007.

Process-oriented and external evaluation of the project secured all measures of quality issues and the possibility of adapting the project results to other vocational sectors and professions.
The results of the project as well as the different products (VLE content, manual and CD-ROM) are disseminated throughout Europe.
The project co-operates and collaborates with other (EU) projects and partner institutions in the field throughout Europe.
