University of Southampton, School of Humanities, Modern Languages, UK. They have a very distinctive approach to the learning & teaching of Modern Languages at Southampton: Modern Languages was awarded the top grade (5* European Studies) in the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise; dedicated teachers, who want you to share their enthusiasm for their subject; an innovated and flexible curriculum (including applications of new methodolgy and didactics), allowing students to chose what to study; a language learning programme based on your level of proficiency, not on your year of study; excellent facilities and resources for study and research, and an attractive working environment. They offer a wide range of credit-bearing degree units from beginners to final year degree level. The following languages are available: Catalan, Chinese, English (for International students), French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish. Subject specific courses: Many of these are available to students across the University and are designed to complement different types of degrees, so that you can take for example: French for Engineers, German for Scientists, Spanish for Social Scientists...
